Adventures in aging with intention

What Does Fitness Mean to You?

Not everyone approaches exercise in the same way

It’s not all about cardio, but it is about benefitting by being able to move easily in our daily lives — to relieve stress, bolster self-esteem, and perhaps even get a better night’s sleep. Could it be about pain management or having more energy? Or do you want the freedom to play on the floor with your grandkids and get back up again?

Whatever your reasons or approach, opening up a conversation with yourself is a good place to start. So thanks for taking the first step by clicking to arrive here.

Let’s build on that momentum and set an intention together. The minute you start moving your body is already benefitting. Exercise restores the cellular health of muscles associated with aging.

It begins with a deliberate choice to move — then being the person who moves.

Owning it.

I confess, for me, movement is what connects me with myself. I’ve sort of moved through life like a tuna fish, never knowing how to stay still (they suffocate if they stop moving). I was a competitive figure skater as an eight-year-old. I loved gliding most of all.  Now hikes in nature tend to fill my cup.

What I’ve come to understand with aging, is how my body operates differently as my years roll along — constantly changing the tools I have to work with. Offering a door to get creative; another way to move without getting stuck. Acceptance let’s me honor my body by exploring movements that embrace where I’m at right now.

With awareness and self-love we can feel more alive — as within, so without.

We tend to gravitate to things we enjoy, then return to them again and again (which is a practice). So get playful with these questions. Saw “yes” to what they reveal and see where you land.

1) Which one best describes you:

  • a) Don’t really like to exercise but I do it because I feel good afterwards
  • b) I enjoy exercising; it helps me manage my weight and relieve stress
  • c) I hate to exercise so I keep it to a minimum
  • d) I’m unable to exercise (illness, injury)

2) If you exercise, what do you do to make exercising enjoyable and rewarding?

  • a) Time to be with friends/nature
  • b) Listen to music, podcast, book on tape
  • c) Group sports as part of a team
  • d) Classes with other people motivate me
  • e) Other (fill in what works best for you)

3) What are the three most important attributes you gain from exercise?

There is no scorecard here, or pass/fail to measure up. Just a choice to listen to your heart.

Your journey home to yourself begins on the inside. Then your intention aligns with the Universe as a demonstration of who you are.  As your highest and best.
